About Family Life Fund
Family Life Fund is dedicated to helping families who are coping with a child’s compromised health or well-being.
We recognize and honor the impact of family in a child's life. When a child faces challenges, the entire family is affected.
Family Life contributes funds to community programs that provide education, support and activities to help sustain and heal families. Formerly an Auxiliary Board of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC Foundation, Family Life raised over $860,000 in four years to fund education, support and social programs for families at Children's. Family Life continues to be active there providing funds for family movie nights, game days, seasonal parties, parent journaling groups, coffee nights, and so much more.
The Family Life Fund [501(c)(3)] reorganized in 2014 to expand our scope of support, allowing us to reach beyond the walls of the hospital and serve even more families in need.
Our first grant outside of Children's in early 2014 was made to the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic's Intensive Outpatient Program for children with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder at the Franklin Building on the south side of Pittsburgh. This facility where children and families receive care was lacking in even the most basic equipment and amenities to support the dozens of families who spend hours there three and four times each week while their children participate in therapy. The grant was over $30,000 and has already been used to make substantial improvements to the family waiting area space and to significantly expand much needed family education. With these funds, WPIC also hosted a continuing education seminar that was free to clinicians from all over Western Pennsylvania which provided them with training on how to help families deal with their child who has OCD.
The Family Life Fund's 5th annual signature event, A Sweet Gesture: Casino Royale celebrated the traditions of Valentine's Day in James Bond fashion at the Fairmont Inn on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Over $95,000 was raised to benefit Achieva and the Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh and the Family Life Fund.
The Family Life Fund Board of Directors is comprised of 10 individuals from across Allegheny and Butler counties. Together we developed a new mission, to extend support to programs throughout the region who are offering care to children and families.
A Sweet Gesture is the two primary fundraising event held annually to support programs that care for children and their families.
Jeremiah's Place, a crisis nursery in Pittsburgh, provides safe supportive care for children to help families during times of crisis. Through our previous Fashionista! event held on November 8, 2014, Family Life raised almost $30,000 for the Family Life Fund and Jeremiah's Place which is now able to offer a new educational initiative to families whose children have spent time at the nursery. This initiative includes dinner programs which offer support to the families by introducing and connecting them with existing community services and by promoting education regarding trauma... how it impacts their children and how to address it in a way that provides long-term results.
